Besides getting laughs,
Lampanelli’s schtick helps women who are dangerously overweight, something she used to be.
A Joan Kron Documentary
Lisa is a stand-up comedian and “insult comic,” with a softer side in person. She’s had pit stops along the way studying at Harvard, fact-checking at Spy magazine, roasting Howard Stern, and trading insults with other contestants on The Celebrity Apprentice. She recently lost 100 pounds after having a gastric sleeve operation. That surgery was the inspiration for her new Off-Broadway show "Stuffed," about women and food. She talked to us about the satisfaction she gets knowing women who heard her story were motivated to get the help they needed. "It really does benefit the public,” she says, when comedians speak frankly about their appearance issues. Lisa doesn’t mince words. "Don’t interrupt me, Joan,” she scolded, when I spoke over her during the interview.
